Outburst Photometry of the Eclipsing Dwarf Nova GY Cancri

We observed the ROSAT-selected eclipsing dwarf nova GY Cnc (=RX J0909.8+1849) during the 2001 November outburst. We refined the orbital period to be 0.17544251(5) d. The fading portion of the outburst was indistinguishable from those of typical dwarf novae with similar orbital periods. However, the signature of orbital humps (or a hot spot) was far less prominently observed in the orbital light...

The Long-Period Orbit of the Dwarf Nova V630 Cassiopaeia

We present extensive spectroscopy and photometry of the dwarf nova V630 Cassiopeiae. A late-type (K4-5) absorption spectrum is easily detectable, from which we derive the orbital parameters. We find a spectroscopic period of P = 2.56387±4×10 days and a semiamplitude of K2 = 132.9 ± 4.0 km s . The resulting mass function, which is a firm lower limit on the mass of the white dwarf, is then f(M) =...

Ad Mensae: a Dwarf Nova in the Period Gap

1 AD Men has been classified as a probable long–period dwarf nova based on its long–term variability. Recent spec-troscopic data instead suggested a short–period system. With the here presented observations we aim at clarifying its nature. Time–resolved photometry and spectroscopy has been used to get information on the orbital period of this system. The light curve shows the typical flickering...

A possible orbital period for the dwarf nova V1101 Aql⋆

We have performed a Discrete Fourier Transform on 136 CCD B, V and R frames of the Z Cam–type dwarf nova V1101 Aql. Our analysis indicates as possible orbital period Porb = 3 .46, though we cannot exclude the alias at 4.00. We estimate the distance to the system to be about 300 pc. We possibly discovered a bright bow–shaped nebulosity around the object.

Simultaneous photometry and echelle - spectroscopy of the dwarf nova BZ Ursae Majoris during the 2005 January

We report simultaneous photometric and echelle-spectroscopic observations of the dwarf nova BZ UMa during which we were lucky to catch the system at the onset of an outburst, the development of which we traced in detail from quiescence to early decline. The outburst had a precursor, and was of a short duration (∼5 days) with a highly asymmetrical light curve. On the rise we observed a 'jump' du...
